Oscar Alessi

Vive e lavora a Castelfranco.

I love to paint, I see it as a means of expanding my inner self. I take my cue from photos, which are already a reproduction of the real thing, and I focus on the repetition of the subject, moving from the more to the less defined, so I can move away from realistic representation. In this particular work, REPEATING is for me an empirical way to leave behind technicalities that do not interest me and to free myself from constraints that weigh me down. I pursue the reproduction of reproduction, almost to the point of losing the original image. I subtract details, I reduce to the essential not to distort the form but to bring out the idea. The world goes too fast, every day we devour thousands of images, but how many of them really feed us?

In these works I have repeatedly reproduced a flower, concentrating on the form to give meaning to the vision, not to reproduce types of flowers: flower as form/concept. I want to lead the viewer to slow down, to linger on one without distraction, to make him immerse himself entirely in an element. It will then be up to each person to decide what they see, what they want to see. As a painter, I am clear that any artistic product that starts from the real thing is an imitation compared to natural forms that offer irreproducible images because they are pure, intrinsically true. With my work, therefore, I intend to contemplate the apparent simplicity of Nature, not by imitating it but by borrowing it; I want to decelerate the vision and accompany us to cross the natural universe in each of us.

– Oscar Alessi was born in Treviso in 1963. He lives and works in Castelfranco. He has always been devoted to drawing, but only in the 2000s did he refine his technique. At the same time he began to devote himself to painting, which became his predominant artistic medium and where he experimented with different expressive solutions. Starting from photographic images of magazines, books, advertising and others, he reworks positions and figures to delve into psychological images of man. His interest in painters, or rather in Renaissance paintings and above all the drawings of that period, is gradually replaced by recent authors, although the former remain a source of continuous inspiration and comparison with all his subsequent work. He was attracted and inspired, among others, by Titian, Goya, Schiele, Bacon, Arnulf Rainer and Gherard Richter, as well as photographers such as August Sander and Henri Cartier Bresson.

Numerous exhibitions have been held, including Donna e Musa – Casa Dei Carraresi (TV), Emergenza Arte – Villa Farsetti , Santamaria di Sala , Baculus – Palazzo Collicola – Visual Arts Spoleto (PG), Human Presence Absence – Palazzo Zenobio Collegio Armeno (VE), Vinyl Archive – Gallery Françoise Calcagno, Ghetto (VE).

ADAM AND EVE is the title of the artwork that the artist, Oscar Alessi, present.
For the artist, the theme of the abstract and figurative, has always been a challlenge, and a particular difficult one, since he displays figures but he is also attracted by abstract painting. The abstract reveals the attempt to show the invisible, that particular thing that is the spirit, that we can only suppose, but that has no shape, while figurative panting is the exact opposit: everything that the man knows because it is tangible and material. Before the original sin, Adam and Eve were disembodied beings, made up of spirit, they become human beings only in a second place, after eating the apple or after being joined with each other. The artist shows the exact moment when Adam and Eve are abstract beings, and then, after touching each other with their tongue, they become human beings, like us. The reason of this process is not the apple but the intimate and deep contact that is the kiss.
The kiss is an exchange of fluids, it is deep and also it is a dialogue with someone else, it’s never something superficial. Two persons who are intimate friends or lovers speak with each other in a very deep way, sharing true and significant attentions.
